Getting used to hearing aids

For many people, the first time you use a hearing aid, you will feel a bit harsh.

Most people with hearing loss usually wait for a long time before getting a hearing aid, which will make them gradually forget what normal hearing levels should look like. This is also why people wear the hearing aids for the first time, and they feel that the voices of people around them and the traffic noise are particularly harsh. In general, the sound you hear when you wear a hearing aid will be different from what you hear under normal hearing.

Getting used to hearing aids

The following are some suggestions for the hearing aids:

1. Please do not compare hearing aids with glasses. When you wear your glasses for the first time, you will immediately see the difference between wearing and not wearing. However, after wearing the hearing aid, the hearing conditions have changed, and this change requires people to adapt.

2. An effective way to adapt to hearing aids is listening training. However, this requires you to use the hearing aid without interruption, even if you are sometimes tired and irritable, try not to leave the hearing aid aside. In addition, you need to maintain good communication with the otologist and the fitter, and give you the usual listening experience in time to better debug and help you adapt as quickly as possible.

3. Adaptation is a continuous process. As you become more familiar with your hearing aids, you can tell the fitter which sound sounds very close to you. At this time, the fitter will help you debug the hearing aid more specifically to make it work better.

4. The first use of a hearing aid is also a psychological process. You can tell your otologist and fitter your expectations and experience.

5. Develop a goal and action plan for yourself, including things you should be aware of and expectations at different stages. In this way, both physically and mentally, it will greatly help your adaptation process.

6. Communicate with other people who have hearing loss and use hearing aids. A lot of their experience can be used for reference.
